Although Sandbach Golf Club celebrated 50 years of existence in 1973, subsequent perusal of the Golfing Annual of 1895/6 revealed that it was actually formed on October 11th 1895. From that day forward 9 hole golf was played by members on various areas of farmland in the locality. The Club moved to its present site in 1923 and the Clubhouse,which is a replica of Sunnymede Hotel in Llandudno, was opened in 1926. The course has been almost unchanged, apart from a temporary expansion from 1937 to 1940. The Club is privately owned, firstly by the Twemlow Trust until 1952, and since then by the Foden family. Captains are appointed by invitation on length of membership and Presidents are senior Past Captains or senior Past Lady Captains.
