Title

Vicars Cross G.C.

Description

Vicars Cross Golf Club was founded in 1939 when Bill Richardson purchased 91 acres of farmland and the first 11 holes were designed and laid out.

However, as part of “The Dig For Victory” war effort the land was taken over for agriculture. American soldiers used the lounge as their dormitory and looked after prisoners of war, who worked the land.

Work began to reinstate the golf course in 1945 and the final 7 holes were laid out. In 1952, the owner sold the Club to its members.

Since this time many improvements have made to enable play to be possible throughout the year. Drainage of fairways has been installed to a very high standard and all greens have been reconstructed to USGA specification.
