Title

Eaton G.C.

Description

Eaton Golf Club has its roots in the Great War when Eaton Hall became a convalescent home for injured officers, and a 9 hole golf course was constructed to aid their rehabilitation. Eaton Golf Club was formed in 1920 principally for the Estate’s staff and tenants.
In 1963 the course was enlarged to 18 holes. Membership increased to around 350, but in 1990 the members were informed that, due to security concerns, golf had to cease on the Estate.
However the membership decided to lease farmland at Waverton and construct an 18 hole golf course and clubhouse. Donald Steel was engaged as architect and the new course opened in June 1993.
Since then membership has grown to around 650, including 120 ladies and 60 juniors, and the course has been extended to a challenging 6714 yards. In recent years Eaton has hosted two County Championships and several County matches, and will celebrate its Centenary in 2020.
