Walton Hall G.C.

Title

Walton Hall G.C.

Description

Walton Hall is situated on the edge of Walton Gardens, the land originally acquired by the Greenall family in 1812 and then purchased by Warrington Borough Council in 1941, opening to the public in 1945. The golf course did not appear until 1971, commencing with just nine holes but then extended and redesigned in 1977 by Dave Thomas and Peter Allis to provide the full 18 holes. The Club was formed in 1976 and competitions began once the full 18 holes were opened. The course was used as a qualifying round for the northern PGA throughout 1980's and 90's culminating with a Festival of Golf which ran for over ten years. This event was instrumental in many professional golfers progressing to greater things. Mike Slater was the first "club" pro and because of his high standing and ability he was the standard for many a top pro.
