‘Probably the oldest golf clubhouse in the world’
In 1333 Vale Royal Abbey was completed including the Abbots House and the Great Hall. During the dissolution of monasteries, Thomas Holcroft was tasked to destroy the church, he then bought the South and West Cloisters, including the Abbots House, from Henry VIII for the sum of £450 which became his family home. Some 686 years later it is Vale Royal Abbey’s clubhouse.
