Title

Knutsford G.C.

Description

The Knutsford Golf Club sits beside the magnificent Tatton Park.

Once part of the park, it was founded by Lord Egerton of Tatton in 1891 as his personal course and it is rumoured that he was often to be seen playing golf with a liveried footman as his caddy.

Lord Egerton invited the gentlemen of Knutsford to play the course and form the club. The last Lord Egerton died in 1958 and the members of the Club eventually bought the freehold for the course and the clubhouse from his estate in 1965 for the princely sum of £7500.

The Club continues to thrive as a private members club with very active Men's, Ladies' and Junior sections and was described by Chris Hilton, Captain of the R&A in 2018, as a "hidden gem".
