Description
This picture shows the greens staff at Wilmslow (in the vicinity of the 4th tee). In the background you can make out the concrete poles erected to prevent enemy aircraft landing.
Wilmslow adopted an unusaul approach to the requirements of the Agricultural War Committee. Instead of leasing club land to a local farmer, they cultivated it themselves and supported dwindling club funds from the sale of oats etc. Over 100 sheep also grazed the course, In 1942 the wheat crop raised £ 315, plus £169 from hay, sheep and cattle.
