Prestbury

Description

Prestbury Golf Club was founded as Prestbury and Upton Golf Club in 1920, its first competition was held in April 1921, and the course was officially opened in April 1924. At that time the course measured 6.344 yards with a ‘bogey’ of 77. The course was laid out by Harry Colt, and such was the strength of his design that very few alterations have been made to the design in the subsequent century. As originally built, the course had very few trees and a great deal of natural sand. Since the Second World War the character of the course has been substantially changed by the planting of many thousands of trees. The course now measures 6,419 yards with a par of 71.
6 Prestbury GC members became President of the Cheshire Union of Golf Clubs, namely H.C. Humphreys, G.E. Northam, Dr.B.H. Delany, E.H. Ellis, R.W. Meston, and J.E. Allen. Also E.H. Ellis was President of the English Golf Union in 2010.

In 2018 Josh Turnock won the Cheshire Boys Championship, and this was followed by a superb 2019 where Mike Harrington became the Cheshire Mens Strokeplay Champion. He joins Bel Wardle, Cheshire Ladies Champion, Gill Mellor, Cheshire Senior Ladies Champion, and James Newton, Irish Amateur Champion. Also PGC has qualified for the England Mens Club Finals in Sept. What a year of achievement!
