Title

Stamford G.C.

Description

From the humblest of beginnings with a clubhouse in the front parlour of the 'Crow 'i th' Wood' farm , and a handful of original members Stamford Golf Club now stands in the forefront of golfing excellence in this area.

Its three clubhouses and forty-four greens have moved freely since 1901 over this hillside setting above Stalybridge to produce today's club, the most northerly club in The Cheshire Union, which visitors find welcoming and a 'testing but sporting' experience.

Its varied history has often mirrored the difficulties of the century it has spanned, but the industry and resourcefulness of generations of members has assured its survival through the darker days.

The club's golfing accolade is probably the Dunham Forest Trophy victory of 1980.
